The Methodist Modern Art Collection
in Dublin at the RHA
The Methodist Church in Britain has built up a fine collection of Modern Art on Christian themes over the last 60 years. The bulk of the collection will be on display in the RHA Gallery for six weeks.
There are over 50 works, including some by well-known artists such as Graham Sutherland, Elisabeth Frink, William Roberts and Patrick Heron.
Most of the pictures depict scenes from the life and teaching of Christ: some artists were or are believing Christians, others not.
From the early church to the present day images have played a crucial role in the exploration of the Christian faith. Since the catacombs of Rome the gospel has been articulated as much in image as it has in word.
The Methodist Modern Art Collection takes its place in this long tradition, providing an opportunity for new encounters, vibrant expressions of God’s love and a whole range of conversations that are both missional and pastoral.
